Wilks & Co. Wine Merchants
Sponsors of Restaurant of the Year
Wilks & Co. Wine Merchants aren’t ones for taking the easiest or cheapest way of doing things where quality can be compromised. We like to import from single growers and offer our customers true artisan wines, which does mean paying huge amounts of import duty direct to HMRC and reams of extra paperwork. However nothing beats unearthing new sources of great wines and to this end Brian Wilks has recently returned from the Loire Valley where he found an organic grower of stunning Sancerre. He says “with growers having very little excess wine to spare, after two sparse vintages, bulk prices are high so now’s the time to buy estate produced wines as the gap in quality is not reflected in the price”.
Wilks & Co. was established in Essex 25 years ago and is now based near Braintree. It is a family owned business principally supplying the trade.
We see, first hand, the enormous work that goes into ensuring restaurant customers have a an enjoyable meal, so when restaurants get it right we like to be part of the recognition, in our own small way.
Every year the awards seem to give more and more worthy businesses the chance to showcase their talents and we certainly couldn’t wait to be part of the proceedings this year.
Essex has a proud history in farming and being close to London producers used the Thames estuary and swatchways to good effect in the transportation and supply of food and drink to the city.
We are Essex through and through but our heritage doesn’t stop us proudly supplying many other counties with wine which we import into our Essex warehousing.
